Vaastu shastra is the science of constructing buildings in harmony with nature. Derived from Sthapatya Veda, this science developed during vedic times in India. It dates back to the pre – Ramayana and Mahabharata periods, with references found in Buddhist literature too. The science of vaastu shastra later developed in the form of Feng Shui, in countries like Tibet, China and Japan.
The universe as well as the human body are made of five elements each; and for perfect harmony, both (five elements of nature and five elements of human body) have to coordinate. Apart from elements, directions also play a very significant role in this science. Each direction signifies certain characteristic and it is essential to understand the basic nature of the eight directions. The basic rules of vaastu are based on these eight directions – East, West, North, South, North East, North West, South East and South West.
History reveals that the strength of any building gets enormously enhanced through vaastu. In Mahabharata – Pandavas were given wasteland by Kauravas. Lord Krishna got the land designed by Vishwakarma, the Celestial architect using the vaastu principles. The land called, Indraprastha (Delhi) till date remains the ruling city of the nation. To give another illustration, one of the largest settlements of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation, which is known for its remarkable architectural planning, was also built according to the principles of vaastu shastra.
A corrected vaastu defect can resurrect failing fortunes of industrial enterprises and companies. Vaastu is used to channelize positivity in our homes, offices and our lives too. It helps individuals by providing them with good health, happiness, comfort and harmony. With people understanding the value of vaastu compliant homes and offices the science is getting its due place in the society.
